McFarlane Toys began producing football SportsPicks figures  in 2001. Each year about two dozen players from the past and present are featured in McFarlane's lineups. Big name players and popular players in big markets are showcased. But what about the semi-stars or stars in smaller markets that may never get a figure? That is where Customizers come in.

Using a McFarlane SportsPick figure as a base, the figure is then stripped down, reprimed and repainted.

In addition to repainting - sculpting, part swaps and some ingenuity can help create a unique custom that features your athlete's unique attributes.

How much does a custom cost?

Price can vary from custom to custom. Repaints are generally the least expensive but since you are using a "collectible" as a base figure, costs can rise depending on the pose chosen.

Custom poses tend to be more expensive due to the time and materials necessary to complete the job.

Other factors that affect cost:

Size of figure: 6" figures are cheaper than 12" figures

Packaging: Do you want the figure professionally repackaged with custom graphics? or returned loose?

Quantity: Discounts are available when ordering multiples

Timeline: While most customs are completed in 4 to 6 weeks if you have a deadline (birthday, signing, etc.) those can be accomadated with certain restrictions.

Remember, when it comes to customs you get what you pay for. Ebay is hotbed for shoddy customs. Often times, these customs were thrown to together for a quick buck. They are photographed from a distance to hide their flaws. A good customizer will gladly provide you with high res pictures of their work so that you feel comfortable with your choice
